PR Tip of the Month: Getting into a Social Media Routine

To reap the benefits of social media, businesses need to invest time in engaging their fan base. However, due to limited resources, most small businesses spend less than 10 hours a week building their social media, and simply let it fall by the wayside. Today, we will give you some tips on how to get into a social media routine so your pages don’t go cold.
- It starts with strategy: Don’t be scared of the word strategy. Start one for your business’ social media, and make sure it includes what you want to gain. Businesses with social media strategies are much more likely to stick with and accomplish measureable goals.
- Create a blog as your social media centerpiece: With a blog, you instantly have internal content sourced to you, the expert. If you begin a blog calendar, and post regularly, then you will have a steady amount of engagement. We recommend that you run at least one blog a week, and keep it around 300-500 words so readers gain valuable information without being bogged down.
- Think social media when you have free moments: While you’re waiting to meet with a client at their office, pick up your phone and check in on Facebook. Budget 3 points into your day: morning, lunch and late afternoon to check your business’ social media and share an update about what’s happening. It doesn’t need to take hours; 10 minutes each time is fine. Finally, when you attend events/conferences or host them for your business, don’t forget to encourage social media interactions. When you get that 5 minute break between guest speakers, try sending a tweet rather than twiddling your thumbs waiting for the conference to continue.
Doing some of these little things will go a long way to help you keep your pages active and drive engagement on your business’ social media.
