FUN RUN 5K FOR PEDIATRIC CANCER TAKES OVER DELAWARE COUNTY

– CareSTAT Urgent Care will hold its first annual Fun Run 5k to raise funds for cancer research –

PHILADELPHIA, August 28, 2014 — CareSTAT Urgent Care will hold its first annual Fun Run 5k by Crowell Park in Springfield, Pa. on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 9 a.m. The run will raise funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand and observe National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The race, which will take place in conjunction with Springfield Community Day, will run along a pre-determined course and will lead participants through a quaint suburban setting. Registration for the Fun Run costs $25, and all racers will receive a complimentary t-shirt and goody bag.

In addition to the Fun Run 5K, participants and members of the local community are encouraged to stop by for Springfield Community Day. Those in attendance will enjoy a live appearance from Andre Gardner of Philly’s Classic Rock, 102.9 WMGK, a celebrity dunk tank, water ice, refreshments and more. The event also is kid friendly and will have a moonbounce and face painting station.

“At CareSTAT, we make it our mission each and every day to keep the Delaware County community healthy,” said CEO Dr. Jonathan Gusdorff. “We felt that hosting a 5K race was the perfect way to lead by example, and bring the community together for a little exercise while rallying around an urgent cause.”

The CareSTAT Fun Run 5K will raise funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, which provides money for childhood cancer research. Additionally, the race will specially honor pediatric cancer survivors, including one local boy, Ben Brewer, who bravely battled neuroblastoma. Ben underwent 15 weeks of intense chemotherapy at Columbus Children’s Hospital and has since been deemed disease free.

“Ben’s fight against cancer should serve as an inspiration for all those battling this horrible disease,” Gusdorff said. “It’s an honor that he is able to join us for the Fun Run 5K, and we are convinced he will bring hope to many others currently suffering from pediatric cancer.”
