FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 5, 2014 – No Dog Gets Left Behind, a nonprofit that works to reunite military members with war-torn pups they bonded with while deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, will host a Dog Days of Summer Event on Sat., Aug. 16 from 12-4 p.m. at the North Penn VFW Post 676 located at 2519 Jenkintown Rd. Glenside, Pa. 19038.
Dog Days of Summer will raise funds and awareness for No Dog Gets Left Behind’s newest initiative, Save a Dog Save a Veteran, which was launched to help a veteran suffering from PTSD.
“Typically, we work to raise $4,500 to bring a dog home from Iraq or Afghanistan to reunite with its companion soldier in the U.S.,” said Trish Gohl, founder of No Dog Gets Left Behind. “However, with Save a Dog Save a Veteran, our goal is to go one step further. Not only will we provide funding to bring an Afghanistan dog to the U.S., but also we will cover all costs necessary for the dog to become a PTSD service dog for a veteran in need.”
Save a Dog Save a Veteran translates to a $13,000 proposition; however, Gohl said this is a small investment to restore two lives. “We’ve found that veterans relate well to the Afghanistan dogs because they have both experienced the same rigors of war,” Gohl said.
Guests who attend Dog Days of Summer to support No Dog Gets Left Behind will be treated to a day full of festivities including live entertainment from local singer/songwriter Michael McCormack and DJ Lisa Rittler, as well as opportunities to win a number of raffle prizes. Kids can enjoy a moonbounce, doggie bean toss, treasure sand dig, a temporary tattoo station, a foam art activity and more. Tickets purchased in advance are free for children younger than five, $10 for children older than five and $25 for adults. Day-of-event, children are $15 and adults are $30. The price of the ticket includes unlimited beer/wine for those of age along with a buffet, and all proceeds directly benefit the charity. Tickets can be purchased by visiting http://save-the-pups.org/dogdays/.
In addition to raising support from the local community, No Dog Gets Left Behind’s title sponsor, PetSmart, will present the organization with a $10,000 check at Dog Days of Summer so it can continue its passion for helping soldiers/veterans in need. A presentation ceremony will take place at 2 p.m., and photo opportunities will be granted to media members in attendance. Additional sponsors include Corporate Partner Primex Garden Center, and Glenside Good Neighbor sponsors Kelly Cataldi Home and the Glenside Pub.
To help serve community members throughout the Greater Philadelphia area, guests are encouraged to bring canned goods to donate to Philabundance. Each guest who brings a canned good will receive a raffle ticket for a special prize.
