NO DOG GETS LEFT BEHIND RECOGNIZED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE

Organization receives award for reuniting soldiers with companion dogs while deployed overseas

PHILADELPHIA, July 23, 2013 – Trish Gohl, founder of No Dog Gets Left Behind, was awarded the Department of Defense’s Seven Seals Award in recognition of her passionate support for war-torn pups.

The family driven and patriotic initiative No Dog Gets Left Behind has raised more than $50,000 to provide financial support to reunite military personnel with the stray animals they found and bonded with while at war. It takes about $3,500 in donations to bring one of these invaluable companions stateside to reunite them with their soldier. This fee includes vaccines, medical treatment and transportation.

The Seven Seals Award, depicting the heraldry seals of the 7 military services, is given at the discretion of the Pennsylvania Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) chairman to recognize the efforts by a citizen, business or organization whose supportive actions have benefited all of the Guard/Reserve components in a significant manner. Recipients of this award, like Trish Gohl, have demonstrated outstanding support, commitment and extreme patriotism to the U.S. military.

One of the four legged members that benefitted from No Dog Gets Left Behind is a mixed canine named Sammy. An American soldier deployed to Afghanistan reported that Sammy lingered outside of a gate and assumed an unofficial watchdog status.

Sammy’s official job was to bark and alert soldiers when intruders approached; however, the majority of his time was spent showing affection for his soldier companion. Citing Sammy’s overwhelming level of loyalty, the soldier reached out to No Dog Gets Left Behind to facilitate, through fundraising, Sammy’s journey to the U.S.

“These important animals not only help our heroes in the war zone, but they also help them readjust to life back home after combat,” Gohl said.
