ROSEMONT ARMY VETERAN TO PLAY ARENA FOOTBALL ALONGSIDE FELLOW VETERANS
–Veterans prepare for arena football rivalry as part of The Philadelphia Soul’s Military Appreciation Night–
PHILADELPHIA, June 21, 2013 – Adrian White, who served with the Army’s 29th infantry division, will represent the Army Veterans team in the inaugural Army Veterans vs. Navy Veterans Arena Football Game tomorrow at the Wells Fargo Center.
The game is part of the Philadelphia Soul’s and Judge VIP (Veterans in Professional) Careers’ Military Appreciation Night that will include a veterans Speed Career Networking Event exclusively for transitioning military service members, wounded warriors, veterans and military spouses from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. prior to the evening’s events.
Minority owner of the Philadelphia Soul and CEO of The Judge Group Martin E. Judge, Jr. said the mission of the hiring event is to find employment for veterans.
Afterwards, the evening will celebrate our heroes through the American pastime of football – arena style.
White, a 2002 graduate of Harriton High School in Rosemont, Pa., played high school football with former Eagles Coach Andy Reid’s sons, Brit and Garrett. When White was 16 his father died of cancer, and he overcame his grief and received inspiration from Coach Reid. It was Reid who took time to mentor White and persuaded him to showcase his skills with a walk-on slot for the Virginia Tech Hokies. White made the football team and played on their roster for the 2003-2004 season until an injury forced him to end his career.
To help finance his college education, White enlisted in the Army as part of the 29th infantry division, Charlie Company out of Christiansburg, Va. While studying business marketing at the University’s Pamplin College of Business, White was deployed from 2006-2007 under Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon his April, 2007 completion of the warrior leadership course at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo he was promoted to Sergeant E-5. The soldier’s next assignment was as the commander Radio Transmission Operator (RTO) for two years. White completed his military duty in 2009, separating from the service as an assistant squad leader to an Army staff sergeant on a domestic assignment.
Now employed in marketing with Enterprise CarShare, White will have the unique opportunity to get back on the football field, represent Army veterans and play arena football in a specially drafted unit of veterans that will engage in a friendly rivalry following the regular season 6:05 p.m. Soul vs. Iowa Barnstormers game.
