USO Operation That’s My Dress Brings a Day of Fashion to Military and their families in Pennsylvania and New Jersey

Fashion Show and Dress Expo at The Hotel ML will feature special appearances from professional models & Miss USA titleholders

PHILADELPHIA –June 9, 2016- The USO, in partnership with international fashion designer Sherri Hill, is set to host one of this year’s eight Operation That’s My Dress (OTMD) events in the Philadelphia/New Jersey area at the Hotel Mount Laurel in Mount Laurel, New Jersey on June 29th and 30th.

Entering into its fifth year, OTMD will give military teens ages 13-19 as well as military spouses and service members, the chance to pick out a brand new gown or cocktail dress. In total, OTMD has received over a thousand dresses from Anne Taylor, Ralph Lauren and, of course, Sherri Hill. Military teens, spouses experience unique challenges related to military life with frequent moves, deployments, and adapting to new homes and communities. The Operation That’s My Dress experience is just one of the many ways the USO connects service members and their families to their family, home and country. Since its inception, the program has evolved from a dress giveaway to a family fun entertainment program including a dress exposition, celebrity meet and greets, consultations with beauty pageant contestants and perfume, hair and accessory giveaways at The Beauty Bar.

Past participants have said, “It’s nice to see that all these people care about what our parents do and what we go through. Everybody here knows what it’s like to have a parent that’s in the military.”

In addition to getting a free dress, guests will receive a custom garment bag for transporting their dress home, as well as jewelry, make-up and hair products. Participants will be accompanied by Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, state pageant title holders and professional stylists to help them pick out the perfect dress. The participants will also partake in hair and make-up demonstrations provided by professional stylists to give them additional resources to help feel confident and beautiful.

OTMD has held thirteen events reaching more than 13,000 service members, spouses and children and given away more than 6,000 dresses. The average cost per/person served for this program is $27.81; the total value of dresses and other gifts of appreciation delivered to all participants is more than $7,000,000. Although OTMD originally took place in New York, since 2012 the program has expanded to cities across the country. More than 1,400 volunteers, donating more than 25,000 hours of time, have helped to take this event to thirteen locations including Camp Lejeune, Fort Campbell, Fort Hood, Fort Drum, Fort Bragg, New York City, Jacksonville, Las Vegas, and Tampa.
