In public relations, the number one priority is to get a desired message to the public. In order to do that, one must use some form of communication medium, whether it is through TV, radio, the internet or print.
Television – When using television as a medium, there are many ways where one can get a message across to a company.
- Press Conferences and television interviews – When a crisis hits, PR professionals should be ready to have a spokesperson speak on the issue to let the public know what is going on and how the issue will be averted.
- Commercials/Advertisements – A great media relations strategy can help when it comes to advertise or promote a company by using a commercial or form of advertisement on television. Many well known companies have used commercials as a way to follow up on a previous crisis or issue (BP oil spill).
Internet
- Social Media – Social Media is one of the number one outlets used on the internet for companies to get daily exposure to many people. Keeping an updated profile whether it’s on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook also can boost the chances of getting a message across to your desired target audience.
- Blogs – In the new digital age, there are many freelance writers and bloggers everywhere. With this being said, it could be very easy to find out what others are talking about and what is trending. Blogs are also great since you can start your own and use it to post information about the company.
Although the use of magazines and newspapers are dwindling due to the digital age, there can still be promise in using print mediums. Both local and national magazines and newspapers can help large companies get info out whether it’s a press release, article or advertisement.
The Digital Age = Media Integration
With the use of social media, electronic magazines and newspapers, and internet streaming programs, all forms of media have slowly integrated, which is great for public relation professionals. By integrating all forms of media, it can help us out in many ways.
- The simple use of a great hashtag in a commercial or television show can easily help get a particular message or more exposure to a desired target audience.
- The use of QR scan codes on print and the internet can be used on mobile devices
The integration of media also increases the use of feedback that one gets from the public as well.
