Philadelphia Mummers Say Thanks to Veterans with Donation Drive & Thanksgiving Dinner for the Philadelphia Veteran’s Comfort House
No Veteran Will Be Left Behind this Holiday Season
Who: The Philadelphia Veteran’s Comfort House (PVCH), and Philadelphia Mummers from 36 different clubs (New Year’s Brigades) will gather at the Mummers Museum for an annual donation drive in support of PVCH. The Philadelphia Veteran’s Comfort House is a local non-profit organization with a mission to give homeless veterans a chance to start again, restore a sense of confidence in them and guide them in pursuit of permanent housing and employment.
What: Philadelphia’s famous New Year’s Mummers Brigades will be donating wish list items to the Philadelphia Veteran’s Comfort House for the upcoming holiday season. The donations will be loaded onto trucks at the Mummers Museum before being delivered to the Comfort House. In addition to the donated wish list items, South Philly’s Toll Man Joe’s, will be providing a Thanksgiving Day feast to 150 Veterans who would otherwise have nowhere else to go on the day of thanks.
“It’s our way of saying thanks to those who served our country and helped protect our freedom,” says Bill Mulligan, a member of Bill McIntyre’s Shooting Stars Fancy Brigade. “A lot of guys come back from serving overseas and face problems trying to readapt to civilian society. The Philadelphia Veterans Comfort House does a great job to reach out and help them get social, medical and other important support services.”

When: Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 8:00 a.m.
Where: Mummers Museum (1100 South 2nd Street Philadelphia, PA 19147)
Philadelphia Veteran’s Comfort House (4108 Baltimore Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19104)
Why: Beginning in 1994, The Philadelphia Veteran’s Comfort House has provided a safe, respectful place of comfort for homeless veterans and those in transition. In 2016 the House closed due to disrepair and lack of funding. Since then, representatives from groups across the community spectrum including: other veterans service organizations, labor unions, and private sector businesses have joined forces to renovate the structure and bring much needed services and shelter back to the heroes who have earned it. “While we continue to offer daily services of a hot meal, warm clothing, supplies and guidance to benefits and resources, the House needs to be reopened to residents in emergent situations,” said Board President, Dana Spain. “We owe a debt to our brave veterans. It’s high time we serve those who have served for our freedom!”
