Delaware Valley Stroke Council to offer Free Blood Pressure Screenings and Stroke Education on Annual Stroke Alert Day

Philadelphia, PA—April 30, 2012 The Delaware Valley Stroke Council marks their 5th annual Stroke Alert Day on May 1, 2012. With the help of healthcare providers and volunteers, the Delaware Valley Stroke Council will help educate the community about the potential warning signs of strokes and offer free blood pressure screenings at more than 100 locations.

On Stroke Alert Day, medical professionals and volunteers will be stationed in various Delaware Valley hospitals, drug stores, supermarkets and malls, to provide visitors with free blood pressure screenings. Free blood pressure screenings will be held at these locations:

  • Narberth Ambulance, Montgomery County, PA 10a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Kennedy Health System: Cherry Hill, Stratford and Washington Township, NJ campuses 10 a.m.-2p.m.
  • 30th Street Station, Philadelphia, PA 8a.m.-4p.m.
  • Reading Terminal Market, Philadelphia, PA 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.
  • Jefferson University Hospital,: Gibbon 10th Street Lobby & Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience at 900 Walnut Street 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.
  • Shoprite at Cheltenham Mall, Cheltenham, PA 3p.m. – 6 p.m.

No appointments are necessary.

Stroke Alert Day started in 2007 to help increase awareness in the community. “We really want to reach out to every individual in the community to make them aware of the signs and symptoms of a stroke. We hope by educating people we can help save the lives of others.” says David Levine, Executive Director of the Delaware Valley Stroke Council.

The Delaware Valley Stroke Council’s mission is to reduce the incidence and impact of stroke by educating the public about stroke prevention. They also help assist stroke survivors, caregivers and families in accessing the best treatment.
