Philadelphia 2014 Auto Show Revs up the Crowds

The Philadelphia Auto Show wraps up Valentine’s Day weekend, and wins the hearts of many. Walking through the show it’s easy to get distracted by the luxury cars all around the Philadelphia Convention Center floor. This green car below is a 1963 Jaguar E-Type. The black car is a 2014 Jaguar F-Type. When you look at the two side by side, it’s amazing how much the F-Type is a modern interpretation of the classic E-Type, which was one of the most unmistakable cars to recognize all through the 60s.

Meanwhile, we knew a large crowd at the Ford showcase could only mean one thing—the 2015 Mustang was on display. Ford’s latest iteration of the iconic Pony Car ties in a blend of the retro look with some new, fresh design cues. When observing the car up close, it’s clear that Ford wants to go beyond American muscle with it. This looks like the first Mustang that clearly has a shot at becoming a “Global Muscle Car.” I have no doubt that Ford wants to take a slice of the European market with this vehicle. The new car’s high hood was obviously designed to meet Europe’s strict pedestrian impact laws, and even the headlights bring a little German flair that we’ve never seen before on a ‘Stang. My photos didn’t turn out, but here is a sneak peek of the vehicle.

Then we spotted a new crop of entry level Germans. For decades, the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C-Class and Audi A4 ruled the entry-level luxury segment; however, all these models have grown up and given way to a new set of smaller siblings. The new BMW 2 Series, Audi A3 sedan and the Mercedes CLA pack plenty of the latest features, some of the most on-trend designs—without being too hard on the wallet. And, none of these cars are too hard on the wallet at the pump either with all 3 capable of getting higher than 30 mpg’s on the highway. Best of all, you definitely don’t have to sacrifice on performance—each model comes equipped with a turbo 4 cyl that won’t let you down at a fresh green light or pulling onto a highway.

Overall, this car show visit wasn’t only fun, but educational as well. I have lots of literature at home to go through when I’m in the mood to car shop once the winter weather breaks, and I have to say… that new convertible Audi A3 is piquing my interest for Summer 2014:)
