South Jersey TECH Company Sees Pandemic Business Pivot as a Future Success

Thunderbolt Software Inc. earns ranking on the 2020 Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies in America

PHILADELPHIA, PA – August 20, 2020 — Thunderbolt Software LLC recently earned a ranking on the 2020 Inc. 5000 list of the fastest growing private companies in America.  With growth of 3608%, Thunderbolt received the rank of 94 and it is the only Technology company in New Jersey to break the top 100 and ranked #2 overall in the state.

A former engineer and scientist at Lockheed Martin, Thunderbolt Software LLC Founder Andrew J Winkler leads the company with more than 25 years of engineering experience. Andrew founded Thunderbolt in 2016 to solve complex challenges for the military and commercial clients, Thunderbolt specializes in Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) solutions for the Department of Defense.

With the addition of business partner Jose Mercado, a Marine Corps veteran, in 2018, the company has broadened its services to include logistics services as an Amazon Delivery Service Partner which has contributed to its explosive growth.  The Thunderbolt Team is incredibly diverse and consists of logisticians, drivers, scientists, engineers, IT professionals and has partners and customers that include  well-known companies and academic institutions such as Amazon, Lockheed Martin, TCOM LP, GDIT and NJ Institute of Technology.

Among Thunderbolt Software business successes include:

  • Grown to 120 employees
  • Opened 4600 Sq. Ft office located in the National Aviation Research Technical Park near the Atlantic City Airport and the FAA William J Hughes Technical Center
  • Designed and developed a new best-in-class fixed winged unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) called the Vigilant Eagle

Following the lead of the likes of Amazon, Thunderbolt has adopted a fearless approach to business in the defense industry.  Thunderbolt has been investing in the development of the Vigilant Eagle, a next generation fixed winged UAV which has over twice the range and endurance of other state-of-the-art Group 1 UAVs on the market at a much lower cost.  The company has held successful test demonstrations with international customers and is looking to quickly move to market.

An upcoming Inc. 5000 article will feature Thunderbolt as it explores how adaptations made by fast-growth companies in the face of crisis may affect the shape of business in the future.

About Thunderbolt

Thunderbolt is a diverse Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) founded to provide expert engineering, technical, and operational support services to government and industry while maintaining our commitment to our customers and the nation. Admiring the start-up mentality of Silicon Valley and global technology giants like Amazon and Tesla, Founder Andrew J Winkler envisioned Thunderbolt to have an unflinching approach to business within the defense industry. “There was a fearlessness that didn’t exist in the defense industry,” says Winkler. “This fearlessness became one of the founding principles of Thunderbolt. Have no fear of failure and when you do fail learn as much as you can and leverage that knowledge as you move forward.”

Methodology

The 2020 Inc. 5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2016 and 2019. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2016. They had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for-profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of December 31, 2019. (Since then, a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2016 is $100,000; the minimum for 2019 is $2 million. As always, Inc.reserves the right to decline applicants for subjective reasons. Companies on the Inc. 500 are featured in Inc.’s September issue. They represent the top tier of the Inc. 5000, which can be found at http://www.inc.com/inc5000.
