Toll Man Joe’s Goes to Bat for a Silent Epidemic

Philadelphia, PA – May 4, 2017 – How hidden is homelessness in Philadelphia? Although studies show that homeless veterans are decreasing here, it’s still a chronic problem that isn’t openly discussed.

This Sunday, a sports bar in South Philly is going to bat for the Philadelphia Veterans Comfort House, and widows of our first-responders. Toll Man Joe’s, located at 26 E. Oregon Ave., is hosting “A Good Time For a Great Cause” to raise much-needed funds for the Veterans Comfort House, the Police Survivor’s Fund, and the Fire Widow’s Fund. The event will take place on May 7 from 2-8 p.m.

Toll Man Joe’s has developed a niche with the area’s veterans organizations, and first responders. “We love to give back,” Tom Penrose, the bar’s co-owner, said. “Our vets, police and firemen and women do so much for us that we like to give back whenever we can.”

There will be non-stop entertainment, and the performers include:

Audra McLaughlin, a finalist from “The Voice,” Shorty Long and the Jersey Horns, the Mike LeCompt Trio, the Wildflower Horn Band, South 47 Country, the Loose Leaf Band, Dave Stone with a Johnny Cash Tribute, the Quixote Project with Rock to Rockabilly, the Tuesday Night Project, the Mia Johnson Duo, the Quaker City Spring Band, the South Philly String Band, the Woodland String Band, and the 2nd Street Irish Society Pipe and Drum!

Tickets are $30 and included with the ticket is draft beer, box wine, finger food, roast beef and pasta. Cash and credit cards are accepted at the door. Proceeds will benefit the Philadelphia Veteran’s Comfort House, the Police Survivor’s Fund and the Fire Widow’s Fund. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit www.tollmanjoes.com/buy-tickets.
