WIDENER UNIVERSITY DEFENSIVE BACKS COACH TRAINING NAVY VETERANS

Veterans prepare for arena football rivalry as part of The Philadelphia Soul’s Military Appreciation Night

CHESTER, Pa., June 13, 2013 – Widener University defensive backs coach, Gary Vinciguerra, has volunteered his time and energy to coach an assembled group of Navy Veterans that will compete against Army Veterans on June 22 in the inaugural Army Veterans vs. Navy Veterans Arena Football Game at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

The  game is part of the Philadelphia Soul’s and Judge VIP (Veterans in Professional) Careers’ Military Appreciation Night that will include a veterans Speed Career Networking Event exclusively for transitioning military service members, wounded warriors, veterans and military spouses from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. prior to the evening’s events.

Minority owner of the Philadelphia Soul and CEO of The Judge Group, Martin E. Judge, Jr., said the mission of the hiring event is to find employment for veterans.

Afterwards, the evening will celebrate our heroes through the American pastime of football – arena style when the Army Veterans vs. Navy Veterans Arena Football Game begins after the 6:05 p.m. regularly scheduled Soul game against the Iowa Barnstormers.

Coach Vinciguerra brings a full resume of experience to the field. In his almost three years working with the defensive backs at Widener University the team has a 9-2 and 12-1 record respectively.

“It’s very inspiring to coach these great young veterans on the football field,” Vinciguerra said. “They are the very best in defending our country and its freedom.”

The Navy veterans roster includes former college football quarterback Lt. Ricky Dobbs; former Academy kicker Capt. Frank Schenk; former wide receiver Lt. j.g. Tyree Barnes; former defensive end Ensign Jabaree Tuani; and three of the six Person brothers – two who played football for Navy, including record holder Andy Person.
