Suede Salon and Spa Prepares for Precautions to Reopen

The Coronavirus has been Devastating for an Industry of Professionals who Make a Living by Touching People

MARLTON, N.J. – May 14, 2020– Suede Salon and Spa has announced its preparations for reopening in a post-Covid-19 era. As of now, Governor Murphy stated businesses can begin to reopen in June. There are many new protocols that will be implemented as the staff and facility work to ensure social distancing at all times.

Many stylists and colorists’ livelihoods were lost overnight. Due to the virus’ ability to spread quickly between close contact, beauty workers would be at high risk of catching or spreading such germs. After regulations were put in place such as stay at home orders and social distancing, salons were shut down leaving its workers unemployed. For several months stylists whose days were spent in the salon, were left waiting for good news.

In preparation for reopening its businesses ten leading South Jersey salons have banded together to join an alliance for safety. In a post-Covid-19 era, the “new normal” among the Salon, Spa and Barber collectives will err toward safety, sanitation and health, providing the utmost standard of beauty and wellness services for guests, for staff and for consumers in their respective communities.

New protocols will include implementing additional daily sanitation protocols for the staff and facility, operating the salon at a 50-percent capacity at all times to ensure social distancing and booking virtual consultations rather than traditional in-salon consult appointments. Also, leaving one vacant chair between guests during services, checking both guests and staff’ temperatures before salon entry is permitted and utilizing touchless forms of payment will become part of daily operations. Guests will be advised to carry a cell phone to conduct touchless payment transactions for all services. Additional safety measures will include obligatory masks for all guests and both masks and face shields for stylists and technicians.

“This is a new and challenging experience for each of us,” explains Kim Carusillo, Owner of Suede Salon and Spa. “By coming together and focusing on the best methods to keep our guests and community safe moving forward, we will get through this. We decided to form this initiative to not only share our experiences, but our plan of action to protect those we serve. We are currently waiting to reopen under the New Jersey’s State Board of Cosmetology guidelines which are pending, along with the issuance of the Governor’s statewide release.”

Members of the South Jersey Professional Salon Initiative include founding members Frank Rizzieri, Louis Tedeschi and Robert Guerriero, Co-Owners of Louis Christian Robert John Salon and also include Salon Christopher Angelastro, In the Village, Le Reve Salon & Barber Shop, Martino Cartier Salon, Lotus Salon, Moxie Blue, Suede Salon & Spa and Mora Salon. “Collectively, we want the community to know what to expect when they go back to their salon. Our main priority is to keep everyone safe,” says Rizzieri.
