Do Some Good…Have Some Fun

Do Some Good and Have Some Fun Doing It

No Dog Gets Left Behind, a nonprofit that works to reunite military members with war-torn pups they bonded with while deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, will host a Dog Days of Summer Event on Saturday Aug. 16 at the North Penn VFW Post 676 located at 2519 Jenkintown Rd. Glenside, Pa. 19038 from 12-4 p.m.

Dog Days of Summer will raise funds and awareness for No Dog Gets Left Behind’s newest initiative, Save a Dog Save a Veteran, which was launched to help a veteran suffering from PTSD.

“Typically, we work to raise $4,500 to bring a dog home from Iraq or Afghanistan to reunite with its companion soldier in the U.S.,” said Trish Gohl, founder of No Dog Gets Left Behind. “However, with Save a Dog Save a Veteran, our goal is to go one step further. Not only will we provide funding to bring an Afghanistan dog to the U.S., but also we will cover all costs necessary for the dog to become a PTSD service dog for a veteran in need.”

Guests who attend Dog Days of Summer to support No Dog Gets Left Behind will be treated to a day full of festivities including live entertainment from local singer/songwriter Michael McCormack and DJ Lisa Rittler, as well as opportunities to win a number of raffle prizes. Kids can enjoy a moonbounce, doggie bean toss, treasure sand dig, a temporary tattoo station, a foam art activity and more. Tickets purchased in advance are $10 for children older than five and $25 for adults. Day-of-event, children older than five are $15 and adults are $30. Children younger than five are free. The price of the ticket includes unlimited beer/wine for those of age along with a buffet, and all proceeds directly benefit the charity. Tickets can be purchased by visiting http://save-the-pups.org/dogdays/.
