Fairmount @ Brewerytown Restores Hope with Habitat for Humanity

Friday, March 10, 2017

Volunteers and staff from the Fairmount @ Brewerytown will be loading a 26-foot truck full of building materials as a donation to the Habitat to Humanity Philadelphia ReStore on Friday. The ReStore is Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia’s discounted home goods store, with proceeds supporting Habitat’s efforts to build and repair homes across Philadelphia for families in need of decent, affordable housing. “With a project as large as The Fairmount @ Brewerytown, construction materials and fixtures are often left over. What better way to put them to good use than donate them to Habitat for Humanity so that they can build and repair homes in our community? We encourage other real estate developers to get involved and help our neighbors benefit from our projects,” says Dana Spain of Fairmount @ Brewerytown.

“Our partnership with the Fairmount @ Brewerytown is an all-around win,” said Corinne O’Connell, Associate Executive Director at Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia. “The high quality of donations leads to an increase in sales, in turn generating more unrestricted revenue for our Homeownership and Home Repair programs. As a ReStore partner, the Fairmount @ Brewerytown is helping us reach our vision of a city where everyone has a decent place to live.”

Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia’s ReStore opened on Washington Avenue in June of 2015 and saw $1M in sales during its first year. This funded the construction of two new Habitat for Humanity homes for first-time homebuyers as well as the repair of ten homes for low-income homeowners. The ReStore’s success relies on the support of strong partnerships such as the one with Fairmount @ Brewerytown.

About Habitat for Humanity:

Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia builds strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. We work locally to transform lives and our city by building and repairing quality homes in partnership with families in need of decent, affordable housing. To date, Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia has sold 201 homes to first-time homebuyers. Future homeowners contribute 350 hours of “sweat equity” in building their houses and others in order to qualify for the zero-interest mortgage provided by Habitat. Since 2010, Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia has evolved our model to strategically partner with more than 365 families though our Home Repair Program, which provides weatherization, repairs and stabilization, services to keep homes safe, healthy and efficient. With 3200 volunteers annually, Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia believes we are all part of the solution to achieve affordable housing, and welcomes anyone willing to swing a hammer to help make affordable homes a reality.

About the ReStore:

The Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia Restore accepts donations of new and gently used furniture, home goods, building supplies, appliances, and more, which we sell to consumers at low prices. All proceeds from sales at the ReStore go directly to support Habitat’s work in Philadelphia, helping families in need of decent, affordable housing through our Homeownership and Home Repair Programs.
