The World Meeting of Families

As the anticipation began for the arrival of Pope Francis this past weekend, the streets were left open for the crowds to freely take over a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet the Pope. As soon as he arrived to Philadelphia on Saturday, September 26, the Pope immediately touched everyone’s hearts as he stopped his driver at the airport to bless Michael Keating who suffers from Cerebral Palsy.

Pope Francis continued to put smiles on everyone’s faces throughout the day as he kissed and blessed babies throughout his parade to Independence Mall where he spoke about immigration and religious freedom. The Festival of Families then took place Saturday evening on the Parkway where thousands of people joined to hear music from Aretha Franklin, The Fray, Andrea Bocelli and Juanes. The festival also included touching testimonials from people around the world on their challenges of family life. Although, the highlight of the night was when Pope Francis brought many to tears when he genuinely spoke about family life and mentioned, “In the family, there are many difficulties, but those difficulties are overcome with love.”

The next day, Philadelphia still truly felt like something else, as people from all ages gathered from City Hall to the Parkway for the Papal mass where he continued to stress the importance of love among all families. It is safe to say that Pope Francis brought and spread love to the city of Philadelphia this weekend and it was truly filled with joy. No matter what religion, people who got to experience Philadelphia this weekend can agree it was a remarkable and unforgettable time.
