SOFITEL PHILADELPHIA PRESENTS EARTH DAY EVERY DAY

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2018

WHO: Sofitel Philadelphia has created the Earth Day Every Day initiative to instill a culture of environmental accountability, and to encourage action. It’s proud to be a part of The Accor Planet 21 Program which places value on recycling, composting, and is based around four strategic priorities: work with its employees, involve its customers, innovate with its partners, and work with local communities. On a larger scale, Sofitel Philadelphia has a rooftop garden where herbs and produce are grown to use right in the kitchen for its guests. The hotel also has started doing dinners around honeycomb tastings because it houses half-a-million bees on its roof. The bees pollinate the rooftop garden where plants, beets, and tomatoes grow, all to be used in food and cocktails for Sofitel’s Liberté Lounge. The goal is to help the environment, and reduce the carbon footprint.

WHAT: The new initiative begins today, and offers guests who are staying 2 nights or more the chance to opt out of housekeeping services in exchange for a $10 food and beverage credit. For every day that laundering sheets, or towels aren’t required, guests will be given the $10 credit. Guests staying four plus nights must be serviced on the 4thnight per the law, and will not be given it that day. Guests can enroll at check-in, or by hanging the door tag outside their room by 1 a.m.

WHERE: Sofitel Philadelphia

120 S. 17th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103

WHEN: Starting Monday, November 5– ongoing.

WHY: Linen reuse programs help reduce water and energy waste. We encourage guests to reuse their towels, sheets, and bedding so housekeeping can cut back on how many times they need to use the washing machines, and dryers each day. We offer guests door tags, and other pillow and towel cards so they can easily let staff know when they plan to re-use their linens.

“We want to give back to our guests who help us stay eco-conscious. Sustainability is a very important part of the hotel and the Accor brand. We just started offering paper straws to be more mindful of our plastic use. The world is beautiful, and we want to keep it that way while incentivizing guests to participate,” said Angela Bauer, General Manager of Sofitel Philadelphia.
